Credit Where It's Due: Daredevil: End Of Days

It feels weird to write about a comic book that, a) is about a character I am completely unfamiliar with, b) doesn't even feature the title character, and c) the series hasn't even reached its conclusion yet, but GOOD LORD! I don't want this series to stop!

Up until a few months ago, my only experience of Daredevil was the less-than-stellar Ben Affleck film. That's it. But just as I started trying to get into more Marvel titles, this miniseries was released. I started picking it up, and after 7 issues it is easily one of the highlights of my monthly pull list, and one best comics on the stands just now.

As I said, Daredevil/Matt Murdock doesn't even appear in the book, although there is someone wearing the suit in later issues (sadly, come issue #6, it's pretty obvious who it is, although the reveal comes at the end of #7). We do get to see plenty of other characters such as the Punisher, Nick Fury, and Elektra, but heroics are almost non-existent here, and It's always great to read a superhero comic that's brave enough to hold back on those types of thrills. Granted, that may not float everyone's boat, but incredibly, writer Brian Michael Bendis manages to turn the titular hero's absence into End Of Days' strongest point. It's all about story. This is just a brilliant, engaging crime mystery, and although there is still one issue left to go, it has been pulled off wonderfully so far.
