Looking Forward: Edinburgh Book Festival

Last August, I went to see Grant Morrison talking at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. I was quite impressed that the festival hosted someone like Morrison, as I had previously looked on the event as an outsider, with the view that it was pretty snobby, and I assumed that comic culture is not something they would embrace, so to see one of the industries' finest on stage there went a little way to changing that opinion.

Well, now they have blown my original opinions right out of the water. Yesterday the program for this year's festival was revealed, and they have gone above and beyond for comic book enthusiasts with Stripped.

In their own words:

Stripped is our celebration of comics, graphic novels and the people who create them and it’s a key part of this year’s Book Festival. Join us to discover how graphic novels and comics bring explosive new ideas to reading and storytelling and meet the writers and artists behind this inspiring, witty and insightful literary form.

Featuring literary graphic novels and memoirs, sci-fi and fantasy as well as hands-on workshops and debates, the Stripped programme will explore the rich heritage of comics alongside the contemporary renaissance of graphic novels, taking in some of Scotland’s brilliant international success stories along the way. Aimed at readers aged 3 to 103, at curious novices as well as diehard fans, Stripped offers an array of unmissable events.

The line-up is impressive. Talks from Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman, Keiron Gillen, Jamie Mckelvie, John Higgins, and various other events, of which there are way too many to list here. Check out the full list of events over on the festival website.
