Credit Where It's Due: Star Wars #1

Due to my post-festive season budgeting, I was over a week late in buying this book. Having read it today I can safely say that if I was forced to only buy one comic book a month, this may well be the one I would choose!

Seriously, I read this book, finished the last page, turned to my girlfriend and said "This is f*****g AWESOME!".

Set between the events of episodes IV and V, this book has it all. In the space of one comic we get Luke, Leia (who appears to be a badass!), Han, Chewy, Wedge, C3PO, Vader, Emperor Palpatine, The Millennium Falcon, X-wings, TIE fighters, Star Destroyers, EVERYTHING!

The script is brilliant, Carlos D'anda's artwork, if not groundbreaking, suits the visual stylings of the Star Wars universe perfectly, and the colours just jump off the page. Add to that a gorgeous cover by Alex Ross, and you have a real winner. I've been avoiding Dark Horse's SW titles since I started collecting again, and based on reviews I've read I was glad I did, but gee whiz, this book is a new definite buy for me. Star Wars #1 gets everything right. The fact it's set in everyone's favourite galaxy far, far away is just an added bonus.
